Meet Leonard: Handsome, Fluffy, and Looking for Someone Who Understands That Beauty Comes With Boundaries 🐾
Hi, I’m Leonard, but my friends call me Lenny.
I’m a ridiculously handsome 3-year-old neutered male Persian, and during the day, I am an absolute love. I’m friendly with the people who care for me, I enjoy attention, and at the shelter I’ve been a very good boy. In fact, if you met me during the day, you’d probably wonder why I’m having such a hard time finding my person.
Well… I have a little nighttime mystery.
In previous homes, I’ve had several incidents where I became aggressive with people, including while they were sleeping. My shelter friends take that history seriously, even though they haven’t seen that behavior from me during the day or while I’ve been living at the shelter.
They’ve been working hard to figure me out rather than giving up on me.
I was found to have urinary crystals, which have been treated. I’ve also been evaluated by a neurologist, and I recently started Prozac to see whether it helps with my nighttime behavior. My humans are even setting up a camera so they can learn more about what I do when everyone leaves for the night.
For now, my future family will need to be comfortable giving me my own safe, separate space to sleep at night. Translation: I need my own bedroom. Honestly, have you seen me? I’m a Persian. I was always going to require special accommodations.
I’m looking for a very particular kind of human. Someone experienced with cats, willing to follow professional guidance, comfortable managing my environment, and able to give me structure and boundaries while we continue learning what makes me tick.
A quiet, adult home with someone who understands cat behavior would be ideal. Because of my history, I’m not the right match for a home with children, elderly or medically vulnerable family members, or anyone who would have difficulty safely managing an unexpected behavioral incident.
I’m not a beginner cat.
I’m a “you’ve had cats your whole life and the complicated ones somehow always find you” cat.
And maybe that person is reading this right now.
My friends know my history means I may take longer to find the right home. But they also know the sweet, friendly cat they see every day deserves the chance to find someone who can safely love him for exactly who he is.
So if you have Persian experience, behavioral-cat experience, or simply a soft spot for handsome little weirdos who need an extra-understanding human, I’d really like to meet you.
❤️ Leonard
