Jamaica

310_Jamaica_success_story  Hi Marie (and JJ), I wanted to send you an update/success story about Jamaica, the shy kitty that we adopted on Aug. 8. Read on for good news! When we adopted her, Jamaica (who goes by Jams) was a very shy kitty who preferred other cats to humans. She spent her first couple of days hiding under the very small space underneath our dresser, sometimes eating the treats we pushed toward her and flinching when we tried to touch her. A Kitty Connection volunteer had told us that Jams warms up to other cats faster than humans, so we decided to let her meet our other cat, Zara. The moment that Jams saw Zara’s feet, she began to mew! With the help of a lot of treats and Zara’s presence, Jams soon extracted herself from under the dresser and raced out to the living room. Jams is a very different kitty today, mostly thanks to Zara’s leadership. She talks to both humans and cats alike. Jams regularly asks us to pet her and is always thrilled when we bring out her feather toys. While she is not interested in lounging on us, Jams does like to sit on the top of the cat tree when we are in the living room. Much to our surprise, Jams recently greeted one of our guests. She headbutted our guest’s hand to ask for petting and ate treats out of our guest’s hand. We feel very fortunate to have Jams in our family. Thank you for letting her come home with us!
