Community Cat Fund: Helping Medford’s Street Cats

Rescued black and white kittens napping together.

We are working to build a Community Cat Fund dedicated to helping street cats in Medford and surrounding communities. Your donations directly support essential veterinary care for trapped cats, including spay/neuter surgeries, parasite treatments, and flea control.

Some community cats must be returned outdoors after treatment, while others may need rehabilitation and additional medical care before they are ready for foster homes. Community Cat Fund donations help offset the cost of this vital care, allowing us to continue supporting cats in need across Medford and nearby areas.

What This Program Has Already Accomplished

Meet Sammy, the first cat helped by the Community Cat Fund. Thanks to a recent donation, Sammy was safely trapped, received complete veterinary care, and found a foster home. Because funding was available, he did not have to wait for a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) group to step in, ensuring speedy care and a better outcome.

Why Helping Community Cats Matters

Many kittens born outdoors in Medford and surrounding communities do not survive the harsh New England winters. In colder climates, kitten season is shorter because many kittens freeze to death before they ever have a chance at a safe, healthy life.

In the photos above, you’ll see Honey and her kittens. A good Samaritan rescued Honey just before the first snowstorm in February while she was living in a DPW yard. Because someone stepped in to help, she and her babies are now safe and warm.

How the Community Cat Fund Helps

* Safely trap community cats living on the street
* Provide essential veterinary care, including spay and neuter services
* Return non-adoptable cats to their outdoor homes after they are spayed or neutered
* Prevent unwanted litters and reduce suffering for cats living outdoors

Life on the street is not easy for community cats. The Community Cat Fund helps us provide the care and second chance they deserve.
