Hi Marie! This email is long overdue.I came in with my sister in law about 8 months
ago and we adopted a large Maine Coon cat named Doug that a lady had found in Medford.I know when we picked him up the person who found
him waited for us and because we were late she was unable to meet us.I just wanted to send you an email and check
in and let you know Doug is doing great!!After a few months of meds he is infection free and loving his new life
in Somerville.His favorite activities include
sitting in the window and watching birds (he is an indoor cat now), chasing
anything, lying on the couch and hanging his head upside down to get an upside
down view of the room, trying to sit in boxes I don't fit in and cuddling. He is just awesome and we love him.Not sure if you have the information still
for the lady who brought him in but we just wanted to share some photos with
you and her.Keep up the good work!!!Bronwyn & Maria
Neroli Hi Stacey, I wanted to give you an update on the kitten (formerly Neroli). We haven't officially decided on what we're going to name him yet but we'll let you know as soon as we do. I was worried he would be scared when he got to my apartment for the first time since he didn't really seem to like the car ride at all. But he walked right out of the carrier and started sniffing around and wasn't scared or skittish at all. We stopped to get more of the Granny's Pot Pie but the store we were at didn't carry it so I bought a couple of cans of Newman's Own to see if he would like it until I found more of the Granny's. As soon as my mom opened the can he climbed up her leg onto the counter to eat it! I got it on video, it's really funny. He really likes the Newman's Own and I've been mixing some hard food in with it too. He's been eating a lot since we've got him here and I think he already looks a little bit bigger. As long as I sit on the floor next to him he'll keep eating until he's stuffed, but if I walk away he has to follow me and see what I'm doing so for now I'm sitting with him to make sure he eats. He seems to be happy and is getting along fine with Petey. He's finally starting to run around and play a little so I think he's building up energy. I've attached some pictures. He loves my big nest chair and a stuffed gorilla on a stick toy. He won't leave my side and sleeps with me every night. He loves it when I cuddle him up in a blanket and he'll sleep and purr so loud! He was whining one morning because Petey was up on the window sill and he couldn't get up there so I put a chair next to the window and so now he can hop up and down easily. Thanks, Katie
Teddy When I adopted Mr. Teddy, I have to admit, at first, I thought I had made a big mistake. The poor guy came complete with an as yet undiagnosed parasite and was terrified of humans.Well, we got the parasite under control with medication and slowly but surely tried working on the trust issues.I’ll jump right to the finish… after only 5 months my Teddy is the most loving, loveable, cuddly cat I have every known!Initially, I did not think he would ever be a lap cat, never mind allowing being picked up.Well, now, when I sit down after dinner, he meows and meows until I sit on the couch so that he can get up on my lap.Days when I work at home he either curls up on my lap or on the chair at my back!He is wonderful!!For all those out there who want “instant love”, please remember that many of these precious animals have been traumatized and are untrusting of any humans because they connect them with their pain. Please give a “tough love” animal a chance. It will be the most amazing and awarding experience of your life.
Louie
Just wanted to thank you for handling the adoption
of our new kitten. We picked him up last
weekend from Kelly in Lexington and he has been getting settled in his new home
this week. “Louie” is a lovely, active
little boy with beautiful orange stripes and we look forward to many years
getting to know each other. I’ve
attached a photo here of Louie in his new home.
Thanks again!Rachel
Cecile All is well with Celie (formerly Sassy). She's growing quickly. We live in Boston. She's a pretty little girl! Thanks! Julie
Tugger and Peanut
Hi Alex: Tugger
and Mrs. Beaumon (now Peanut) are doing really well. Tugger’s found several
sunny places around the house that he has claimed as his own. He lazes around
the house most of the day, and spends the nights either asleep on our bed, or
tearing around downstairs playing with the rugs (which we routinely find in a
big heap in the morning.) He's very social - he talks a lot and just likes to
have his people around. Ms. Beaumon/Peanut spent the first two days hiding -
she was very affectionate when we'd pull her out from under the bed, or out of
the linen closet, but she was scared in unfamiliar surroundings and definitely
preferred being in some warm, safe, enclosed space. Over the past couple of
weeks however, she's gotten a lot more comfortable. She spends the days tucked
away in various hiding places around the house, but at night she comes out and
demands (in her own sweet way) to be cuddled. She is a real lap cat and has
gotten very comfortable jumping up and curling up with us on the couch. At night,
she definitely likes to be on the bed - the closer to people, the better. I
think in a month, when she's even more settled in, she'll probably be ruling
the roost! They are great kitties, and
it feels like we've had them forever. Thanks so much for taking such good care
of them - they are definitely a success story. Very best,Kit
Edward Hello, Edward is doing very well. He and Mr. Friendly have become best buds, they sleep together and keep me up all night running wild through the house. When we first brought him home he disliked being picked up off the floor, now he is adjusting and will be held. Friendly cleans Edward since he doesn’t do a good job on his own, he's more interested in climbing under things and getting dusty and Friendly is right there to clean him up!! Thanks for everything you guys are awesome!! Jessie
Sheba Hello, I wanted to give an update on a kitten we adopted from you back in November, 2008. She is an orange tabby female, and we named her Sheba. The day we adopted her, she was with a litter of orange tabby kittens. We love her so much, she is so sweet and she gets along great with our other cat (Kofte), a male tuxedo cat who is now 3 yrs old. Sheba and Kofte are complete opposites, so they balance each other out very nicely! We are so thankful we found her through your shelter. We hope all the cats from your place find their forever homes they deserve. Sincerely, Amanda & Cem
Blu Stacey, howdy, here is an update about Jojo who is now Blu. She took about 2 weeks but got use to her new home. New personality traits are coming out, she is quite the talker and definitely loves the EARLY MORNINGS! She is healthy and very curious. Every chance she has she tries to find new areas around the house. We have a house in Falmouth and it is a whole new world. She loves to sit in the window and chirp at all the wild life. She is growing in size and is becoming quite the little teen. Thanks for taking care of her till we got together, and I hope the other cats found or find a good home (we don't have the space). Thanks again and please ask any questions. Rob
Pepper Here's Pepper just home from her latest check-up. She is the first cat we've ever had who made not a peep as I put her into the carrier to go to the vet this morning (just needed her rabies shot). The vet says she's in fabulous shape and can’t get over how silky her coat is. She has gotten bigger, but at six months Pepper’s still as playful as ever. Photos don't catch how cute she really is. Thanks, Sharon, for giving her such an awesome start! :-)Leah
Roger
Hi Alex, Roger nee Joseph is doing just fine. He was
cautious and friendly to the two cats already here, and now is playing with one
of them. The other is a skittish feral female who doesn't have any social
skills. Roger tried to befriend her but finally gave up and now just
chases her whenever she emerges from hiding (usually under the living room couch). Roger is very
playful and has games all by himself because the other two are older and not as
energetic. He likes the laser dot, too. My hands are all scratched
up from wrestling matches with him (I trimmed his front toenails today.
He was pretty good about it).My
14 year old son and my husband are very fond of him. My daugher, who is
away at college, did get to meet him and is looking forward to a close sibling
relationship. I've had lots of cats throughout my life, and Roger is one of the
nicest. Thank you for the work that you do fostering homeless animals. It
is my ambition to be able to do the same someday. Sincerely,
Mary Ellen
Diamond
About 2 months ago, I responded to a plea to save one
of the most misunderstood breeds in the world. She is a beautiful
American Staffie who only had days to live unless she found a home. Our
family had been fostering dogs for months and had one of our own already but
have been searching for years for another addition to our family, but knew it
had to be the "perfect" fit, as a pet, like a family member, is a
lifetime commitment. When I responded to the plea for Diamond, I made the
offer to foster her with the possibility of a foster to adopt. I fell in
love with her the second I saw her. My father was 100% against us even
fostering her due to her breed and said that by taking her in, I would be
putting my children and other dog in danger. I tried talking to him to
educate and explain that there are no "bad dogs" only bad owners but
he still thought I was asking for trouble. From the moment she set paw in
our home our whole family fell in love as she is the perfect example of what
this breed TRULY is... sweet, loving, gentle and loyal, just to name a few
attributes. My father eventually (but reluctantly) did meet her and
he has since changed his ENITRE perception of Pitts and now sees that they are
NOT the vicious animals that the media has made them out to be and admits that
what the news portrays is wrong. He has opened his mind and his heart to
her and can't believe how so many others can feel the way he used to about
these dogs. When I look at her, I am filled with love and also with the
joy of knowing that I saved her from an un-timely death as it would have been
the loss of one of the most wonderful dogs I have ever met. We have since
adopted her and couldn't be happier. My family has all those who fought
to save this beautiful dog that has made our family smile every day to thank as
she was everything we were looking for and WAY more!
Oliver
Hi Marie, just wanted
to give you an update about Oliver (nee Marco Polo). Everything has been
great and he is just a lovely cat! Everyone comments on how friendly he is and
he has adapted so well to his new environment. So happy to have him in my
life! We do a lot of napping (him) & reading (me) together- see photo.
Thanks for everything! Best,Adriane
Bb
Alex, Astoria/Bb (her new name) is doing great. It took her a few
days to adjust but she is very active and exploratory now. She eats a
little too much and we are a little worried about her becoming overweight, but
we are working on teaching her to only eat at the appropriate times as much as
we can : ) Best & THANKS for helping us find a new member of our
family. Matt
Orbie
Hi, Stacey, I'm finally emailing you some pictures
of Orbie. She's doing great. She is so affectionate now. All it took was a lot
of love and patience. I don't know if you remember but I adopted her in January
to be a friend for my cat Pierre. I adopted Pierre also from Kitty Connection
three years ago. He is also very lovable. Orbie gets along great with Pierre
and our rabbit, Chi Chi. She loves it when Pierre gives her a bath. She's a
wonderful addition to our family. We love her. Thanks!Annamarie
Mickey Mickey is one of our best success stories. Can you believe this boy was so traumatized by being surrendered that he became extremely frightened and hostile and would cower at the back of his cage and snap at anyone who came near him? A Kitty Connection volunteer, however, decided that maybe if she took some time with Mickey and just sat near his cage talking quietly about anything that came into her head, maybe, just maybe he would come around. And eventually he did. It took a long time but each small step Mickey made that brought him closer to our volunteer was a major success. As you can see from Mickey's photo, it was worth the time and effort it took to bring him back to being a wonderful companion. Mickey is now so happy living with his mom Dana and we at Kitty Connection think Dana is a saint for adopting Mickey and giving him such a good home and the unconditional love he deserves.
BP
BP (Berry Punch; Betty Poop; Betty Paige) was
dumped at a gas station and thankfully rescued by Kitty Connection. Soon after, she came home with us from her
wonderful foster mom Lois' house on February 15, 2010 and she is settling in
purrfectly here. BP is a sweet little
girl who loves to lounge around, spending hours on the top of her cat tower or
on our laps. BP and her new older
brother, Blue, are still adjusting to one another and starting to play nicely -
and Blue is absolutely delighted to have companionship. Berry Punch was diagnosed with ringworm soon
after her arrival (we noticed some hair coming off of her ears) and we started
an easy course of medication. However,
she keeps slipping out of her medical cone, and so she has been wearing a onesie
this week (to keep her from licking her coat) as you will see in the attached
picture. We are so grateful to the
incredible volunteers of Kitty Connection for helping us make this wonderful
addition to our family. All the best,Leslie
and Todd
Bella
I just wanted to say hi and send some updated
pictures of Angelica. Paul and I named her Bella. I can't believe we've had her
for 2 weeks now. She is fabulous and we love her to pieces! Thank you! Julie
Ginger Hi, Kitty Connection, we adopted our little girl Ginger from Kitty connection three months ago. She was two months at the time. She's the most loving and friendly cat. We all love her and are glad she is here to stay. Not to brag but Ginger is the best cat ever. Thank you Sharon for being such a great mom to her. Thanks, Bridgette and Family
Angelica
Hi Marie, I hope you're doing well. I'm not sure
if you remember me, my boyfriend and I adopted Angelica last August from Kitty
Connection (I attached a pic of her). She's doing great and is healthy and
happy! Julia
Mr. Whiskers Hello All, just wanted to give you all an update on how Mr. Whiskers is progressing. He has become a great companion, and great addition to our family. He is very loving, and loves to sleep in the bed with us! He also adjusted very well to a recent move we had made. His next test will be seeing how he adapts to having a new baby in the house in a few weeks! I will continue to send more pictures and updates as time goes on. Thank you again for being so generous and helping these kind animals find families. Were lucky to have Mr. Whiskers! Shannon
Bella Thanks to Kitty Connection for the addition to our family ~ Bella, formally know as "Twinkle Toes".We got Bella when she was about 7-8 weeks old and she is a great cat!Wish we could've taken a sibling too but we had just gotten another kitten a month before and they are a perfect match.Lisa
Sammy
Hello Kelly, you asked for a description of our
Sammy.First and foremost, he is the
most lovable sweetest baby!He loves to
play, loves to check out everything you do, loves to give kisses back and forth
between my husband and I every morning when he wakes us up, what a wonderful
way to start a day! Healthy and extremely loved! We are very blessed to have him in our lives.
The day we saw him in the foster home he was in, poor baby, had one eye closed
due to an eye infection, and right away came to my husband & I, we had
fallen in love.We named him after Sammy
Davis Jr due to his eye that still waters up at times.Thank you for allowing us to have this
precious baby in our lives. Sincerely, Mark & Debbie
Cookie We adopted Cookie (formerly Tufts) on December 3, 2009.I have had a lot of cats in my life, but she is the most adorable, loving, gentle and funny kitty I have ever owned. She has brought so much happiness into our household. She came well trained in the litter box so her transition to our home was very easy. She is wonderful with everyone in our home and our 11 year old son and Cookie are inseparable. She loves to be where the action is and is so much fun to play with.I cannot imagine our life without her.She is a so sweet – hence the name, Cookie!! Alison and family
Dawsyn Hi Jenn, don't know if you remember me, but my son Michael and I were in on December 19th and took Dawsyn home with us.I've been meaning to write and let you know how much we absolutely love her.She is such a wonderful addition to the family. It is almost impossible to believe that she has only been with us for 6 weeks, it feels more like 6 years. She settled right in and seemed as though she had been there all her life. She is great with Michael, very patient and calm around toddler excitement and him wanting to hug her and kiss her.Typically when she has had enough, she gets up and walks away.We monitor their interactions of course, but she is great because she isn't skittish around him, he can be an excitable kid and she exudes calm energy and doesn't feed into his excitement which is just what we needed.Michael absolutely loves her too, and he calls her "Gossin" which is just so cute....I find myself calling her that sometimes too by accident, after hearing him say it so often. When I pick him up at night after work he always asks to "go home and see Daddy and Gossin" and every time she walks in the room, he'll say "oh, hi Gossin!"He loves just watching her and thinks she is hilarious when she chases his Thomas trains or jumps up on the computer desk.We can't say enough good things about her.She is such a love and so affectionate. It really is almost impossible to think it has been such a short time since we have had her, she is so ingrained in all of us.My husband is thrilled about her too, and has thanked me over and over for bringing her home. I am so glad that PetSmart didn't have the Cats for Dummies book I was looking for and I decided on a whim to check Petco.Little did I know when I walked in the door that our little four legged angel would be waiting for us.We love her SO much and can't imagine not having her around. Thank you so much for volunteering your time for such a worthy cause and for bringing people like us so much happiness and joy.Its hard to imagine the poor thing was about to be put to sleep. What a terrible waste that would have been!If it weren't for people like you, we would never have met her.Thank you so much for everything.I'll send you pics every so often. Sincerely, Sherry, Jeff and Michael
Dexter Lisa, thanks so much for checking in. Dexter has been a great addition to the family. It has been fun getting to know his quirky personality. As you can see from the attached photo (Dexter is on the right), he's getting along well with his new brother, Bam Bam. They play actively together, follow each other, and "talk" all the time. I'm pleased to report that he has lost some weight, and we're continuing to work on that. He's adjusting a little more slowly to our dog, Ziggy, but there have been little improvements each day. Thanks again! Sincerely, Nathan
Brady
Dear Karen, we adore our new kitty! He has settled
right in as you can see in the attached photo. Thanks, Carol
Cleo Thanks for checking in.Spotty has been given a new name - Cleo - and she is doing well.Follows me around the house, greets me when I come home from work every night and likes sitting next to me on the couch with her head in my lap.I think she's getting used to her new surroundings and my routine.Loves sitting in the window and since I have narrow sills in my old house, I bought a window perch which she spends tons of time on.I can't wait for the warm weather so she can be out on my 3 season porch which has tons of windows! Kristin
Larry and Mr. Valentine Hey there! Mr. Valentine and Larry are doing great in their new home! They act like they own the place already. It's wonderful. Larry plays fetch like a little puppy when I throw his mouse toy. He brings it right back and waits for me to toss it again. And he cuddles with me right under the blankets when I go to sleep! Mr. Valentine is very vocal. He has the cutest meow! We meow back and forth at each other. It's so funny! And he likes to sit on my lap and purr while I'm on my computer. They are so fearless! They come right up to my friends when they've come over to meet them. I am so happy to have found them. :)Oh, and they get along very well with my hamster! Hahaha. Thanks so much! Jessy
Khloe
Hello Dawn, Khloe (formerly Kringle) is doing awesome and
she is so much fun and affectionate. We
can't believe how fast she adjusted. She gets a lot of exercise playing and she
does sleep a lot. She had a pretty good check-up at the vet. She weighed in at
5.2 pounds. The vet said that she had some gingivitis so we now brush her teeth
every day. It's not that easy to brush her teeth but it should get easier for
all of us the more we do it. Basically she is doing great and we are absolutely
crazy about her. She wanted me to tell you that even though she loves her new
home she will always remember how you were so nice to take such good care of
her and she said that you can visit her anytime that you would like. She hopes
that you will enjoy her pictures. Laura and Sean
Handsome
Handsome was a stray being fed by a very kind woman named Kerry who resides off Riverside Ave. near the MeadowGlenMall. Handsome showed up on Kerry's doorstep a few months ago crying for both food and attention. Kerry could not take Handsome into her home as she had 2 cats of her own. Kerry felt so bad for him that she contacted Kitty Connection for help. Kitty Connection sent Handsome into the vet for an exam, vaccinations and a possible neuter. Our vet called us the morning he was dropped off and they found that Handsome was already neutered AND microchipped! Kitty Connection got the chip # from the vet and tracked down the owner, Tara, who lives on the opposite end of Medford. It turns out that Handsome, whose real name is Kabob, had been missing since September, 2009!Tara was ecstatic to say the least. Kitty Connection reunited Tara with Kabob and hopefully, forever. Kitty Connection would like to thank Kerry for making the effort to care so much about this cat! If it weren't for her, this happy reunion would not have been possible. The microchip made it possible for this story to have a happy ending! Please, we urge all pet owners to keep their animals indoors when unsupervised and to properly identify their animals so that their pets don't end up in a shelter, or possibly euthanized.
Mr. Kitty Thank you so much for bringing Percival (Now Mr. Kitty) to me! He went through Kitty Connection as a youngster, and when his first family broke up he turned up in a shelter in Northern Mass. The people there saw he was from Kitty Connection and called right away to see if they wanted to take him back in. When I went to pick him up from the shelter to bring him back to Kitty Connection, I just fell head over heals for him!He is the perfect cat for us – he stands up to all our foster dogs and it the perfect night time foot warmer – we just couldn’t imagine our lives without him now. Thank you! Leanne
Logan
Hi, Stacey, just wanted to update you on Logan
(formerly Savvy). She is doing great and
is very comfortable in her new home.Logan loves to run all over the apartment and chase after her toys.We play football with one of her toys and she
even plays fetch sometimes! She is very
vocal and meows when it's bedtime so that she can cuddle by my feet or under
the covers next to me.She is extremely
curious and has inspected probably every inch of my apartment.I love having her around and she is such a
great addition to my home. Paula
Toby and Riley
When I lost my three cats over the course of 11 months, I
wasn’t sure when I would be ready to have more cats in my life. Two of my cats had been with me for 19 years
and the other for only three years because he had FelV.It was difficult to believe that I could
replace these loving pets with new ones. Then Marie of Kitty Connection asked me if I would help to socialize a
timid kitten so that it would be ready for adoption.I reluctantly agreed, but Marie can be very
persuasive…so I took in Bonkers (now Toby).Well, the rest is history…I fell in love immediately with this
timid little boy and couldn’t let him go!As he came out of his shell, I discovered a rambunctious, hilarious,
crazy cat who has captivated the hearts of everyone who has met him!But he needed a playmate. I was immediately drawn to the photo of Kyle (now Riley) because
he reminded me of Dewey, the cat I lost to FelV, with his tabby markings and white stomach. I asked Kitty Connection about him and was told that someone had already expressed an interest in this handsome boy. Can you believe that person rejected him because he was too shy! Little do they know they missed out on the sweetest little boy. He is coming along nicely and is so loving. And he is funny because he never circles and then lies down like most cats...he finds his spot and then he lets his body slump down! It is too funny! And as you can see from my photo, he and Toby have bonded quite nicely! Thank you, Marie, for bringing Toby and Riley into my life. They have done so much to heal my broken heart. Joan
Tassy and Ichigo
The kittens are doing really, really well! Their poop is solid, they have a raging appetite and are starting to get used to being petted. It was absolutely the right decision to adopt two kittens - they've been great comfort and company for each other. Jamaica (the grey tabby girl) is still a bit scrawny and shy, but she shows a really good appetite which is reassuring. We decided to rename her Tassy ("tass" is paw in Swedish), and the orange tabby boy Ichigo (which is Japanese for strawberry). Ichi is a happy-go-lucky little kitten, very active and affectionate. I haven't gotten Tassy to purr yet, but she's discovering that being petted is actually nice. I'm thinking about starting to feed them wet food twice a day, since they cleaned out the half can I put out this morning (with the lysine mixed in). So far so good! Katinka
Desdemona Hi, Marie, I wanted to thank you again for being so understanding and cooperative while I went through the process of adopting Desdemona (formerly named Zena). She is now healthy and active and has completely settled in to her home here with Pandora (my other kitty). Having never been socialized I was concerned that Pandora wouldn't adjust to another cat in the house, but they get along just fine and I was able to let them hang out freely after only a week of keeping Desdemona in a safe room. While Desdemona (aka Zen kitty) is extraordinarily patient and tolerant she also holds her ground when need be and doesn't let Pandora run all over her, which makes it such a great balance. I attach a quick picture I took of the both of them sleeping on my chair the other day. Whenever I run into friends that are interested in adopting a cat I mention Kitty Connection, as I am confident they'll be matched up with an awesome cat based on their unique circumstance. Thanks again, Lisa D.
Alice Hi Stacey, just wanted to give you an update on Spice (who has been rechristened Alice). The safe room didn't last long at all, and now she has the run of the whole apartment. She sleeps with us on the bed and follows me around during the day.Hiding under the pillows on the guest bed (in my office) and jumping out at me is her new favorite game. Here's a photo of her just after a nap (in front of the pillows she likes to hide behind). Thanks so much! Sarah
Pepper Having arrived at her forever home on January 5, little Pepper (formerly Trixie) is thriving. She is much loved by the entire family. She loves to play chase, tumble, and climb her scratching post. After play time comes nap time.Although Pepper is quite content to curl up and sleep alone, she still seems to prefer cuddling with family members. Thank you,Sharon!!
Gracie and Bailey
Happy New Year! I thought I'd give you an update
on the wonderful progress Gracie (formerly Grayie) has made after being
reunited with her brother, Bailey (formerly Bamboo). Gracie came on strong at first and frightened
my older Himalayan, Bella, but they have accepted each other and actually play
together at times! Gracie and Bailey are
very happy to be together again, they sit side by side and groom each
other...so cute! Karen was so great to work
with...thank you for everything! Kerry
